Why and how can skin lose their ceramides?
Naturally produced by the skin, ceramides deplete due to a variety of factors including aging, seasonal changes, exposure to hot water, solvents, and dry heat. When ceramide levels are low, the skin barrier can be weakened and may become dry, itchy, or irritated.
Furthermore, a compromised barrier is associated with many dermatologic conditions, such as psoriasis, acne, eczema, atopic dermatitis, and rosacea etc.
